A crash course in changing the world.
My quick interview with a neighbor. I asked a few other people, but no one seemed to have heard of this phrase before. All told, I communicate with a biopharmaceutical researcher, two human geography teachers, and a city planner. Interesting since it seems our locale has many efforts currently underway for different aspects of urban resilience. I conclude that I live in a place inhabited by consummate planners, as this is no modern trend here. We currently have efforts addressing more local production and distribution of food: several farmer's markets including one at Krankies; there are often regular screenings of environmental awareness-themed films; we have an ECHO council, a leadership training program, and new social network to develop social capital; there are various disaster preparedness efforts underway; and we are moving to an all hybrid electronic fleet for the city bus system. Not that there isn't room for more to be done...
