my hero

i have chosen to follow/shadow Nedra Wemreich on her blog called spare change (http://www.social-marketing.com/blog):she's an author, speaker and consultant who uses social marketing to promote health and social issues for NPO's and public companies. reason i chose her as my "hero" is that she deals with topics or rather creates conversations around the two topics i am very passionate about (health and social issues) and she does so through a… Continue

Success of following Monsieur Abdou Diouf

As I mentioned in my previous blog post that I am following Monsieur Abdou Diouf online, the first success is alreay on record. for those who have joined late, let me say a few words about Monsieur Diouf.

Abdou Diouf was elected as Secretary General of La Francophonie at the Beirut summit in October 2002 and then re-elected in 2006. He is the former President of the Republic of Senegal (1981 – 2000) and graduated from the Ecole nationale de la France d’Outre-mer (National School of…

ACT1 - Sir Ken Robinson - All Our Futures: Creativity, Culture and Education

My ACT1 "hero" is Sir Ken Robinson

I saw his TED Talk below a year ago and it deeply touched my thoughts on our educational system which still draws from the industrial paradigm: producing standardized human ressources, putting lot´s of junk facts into young minds mostly without practical application - teaching unimportant subjects while important subjects do not even show up on the curriculum, underestimating the… Continue

Clean Energy

I'm following Jason Aramburu on Facebook, because I am interested in technologies that improve our access to energy while reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. The most important factor in raising people's standards of living is giving them access to cheap energy, and I like to follow the sagas of new technologies that can be a part of the puzzle of replacing fossil fuels in that capacity.

My choice to follow is Kiva and Mike Flannery

I have experienced the poverty of west Africa and know first hand how that first step is the one so many can't make because they have no way to get started. They live day to day and there is no way for them to save or qualify to for traditional funding. I have participated in Kiva loans for well over a year , picking people mostly from Nigeria or those with a name that has a significance in my family ( gotta have some method) At only $25 a loan it isn't a big hit to me but I read of how much… Continue

What would JB do?

Jack Bauer is innovative, exciting, and inspirational. It is fun to watch JB and that is why I've chosen him as a mentor.

Efren Peñaflorida, Jr.

Efren Penaflorida Jr. has been working with Filipino children since he was in school. I choose him because I had the pleasure of meeting him at and talking with him. He was elected CNN hero of the year, which of course was an honour for him, and a demonstration of how much his work matters.
What he started was a novel attempt to educate the Filipino children. Schools here are difficult to set up, and time using, so what he did was get all the educational materials you'd find in a classroom…

re:char

I contacted Jason Aramburu, the creator of re:char. It is a machine that produces energy by burning organic wastes, transforming them into Biochar. In this way, the carbon dioxide contained in the wastes is not released back into the atmosphere through the process of decomposition: it is trapped into Biochar. Plus, Biochar can also be used as a fertilizer for the ground, so it is helpful in agricolture.
I came into contact with Jason through Facebook, I presented myself as a member of…

Hero Shadow

In choosing a hero to shadow I wanted to look at people who are involved in things that I am knowledgeable about and love to do. I'm personally passionate about the fusion of products and online technology. For this reason I've chosen two people to follow that encompass both of these areas.

Ory Okolloh of Ushahidi peaked my interests because of her involvement in building an open… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Foods are vacc** sealded for easy…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
