D.light

Sam Goldman was raised in Pakistan, Peru, India and Rwanda. One of his friend's sons was burned badly by a kerosene lamp. His idea was to make an affordable and safe light for people. His idea was D.light.

Doug shifted from Google to D.light after most of his friends had also. While selling these lights, a village shopkeeper (after buying 5 lights) took him into the larger town to some of the larger marketplaces. After explaining to the shopkeeper about the quality and…

Salt Spring Dollars

In Canada, there is a city called Salt Springs. They have their own money, called Salt Spring Dollars ($$). They are equal to Canadian dollars. One of the ways this idea works is that they have well known native artists art on the bills, they have the same dimensions as regular Canadian money, so they can be inserted in ATMs, they expire, for which you need to trade them in for newer editions or Canadian money, it encourages local retail and have anti-counterfeit measures built into… Continue

On the bus and my laptop

I ride the bus to school each morning and afternoon. 10 long kilometers. I think that if I could change anything about the roomy busses, it would be to add power plugs. They could be attached to the ceiling. (The bus would have solar panels on the top) so that all the student with laptops, gaming systems, mp3 players and cellphones could charge up while on the road. Another idea that might also work (stormy weather) is to make the spinning wheels generate electricity as they go. This would be… Continue

New Years Eve 2020

I've never really stayed up late on New Year's, I'm not sure whether it's because I'm always too tired or another reason, but I never stay up. This night I would. I would stay up with whoever would want to with me, only we would do so without any technology or electricity. Candles would be our source of light. A wood burning fireplace would be our warmth. We would tell stories about when we were younger and all the dreams and crazy ideas we had. At midnight, we would make a wish for a better… Continue

What's for dinner?

It's March 10th, 2010. I would be having a big buffet meal with my family and friends. Everyone would bring something they made themselves. I imagine organic fruits and vegetables, fresh water and natural meats (no processors). We would be eating outside on a big picnic blanket. It would be a nice warm day and everything would be happy. The food would have been hard to find, and very expensive, but when every family brings an organic dish, we can feed a lot of people. My friends and I would… Continue

The biggest way to hold the world's attention

It's World Water Day 2020, and the way I would capture the world's attention is to have a challenge. I would get one volunteer from each continent to participate in a big event based on water. The objective would to be to use as little water as possible while having to complete a checklist that would include taking a shower, washing and preparing food, etc. This would spread awareness on how water is important.

See and do the obvious

When you are on the street and you see a homeless person begging, most people just walk by, thinking that someone else will give them some money. You think it would be obvious to give them some money. Most people think it's so obvious that they don't need to give some money.

There was this book of short stories I read a year or two ago that talked about a poor couple. They decided to cut a slit large enough for a coin in a chest and lock the chest up. In a year, they could…

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
