I think the season 2 of the EVOKE network should trackle the same problems of season 1 and more interesting topics like the local environment, human rights, rising poverty and bad work conditions. Then we schould motivate the participants to more action. Because only collecting solutions does not move much. Furthermore in my opinion the next EVOKE should especially try to reach the countries and areas in which those problems often occur.Because they are the people who really know about the…

I chose the secret "How do people react in a Pandemic" because I think that it contains very important informations for everyone to survive a disaster. Particularly the piece of Peter Sandman, Risk Communication Consultant, is in my opinion quite surprising and useful.
There are several ways of human reactions during a disaster. When people overreact, they pause what they're doing, become hyper-vigilant, check out the environment more carefully than they normally would. The most…

Wenn I am at the age of 100 I would like to share my personal experiences to my grandkids. It is always valuable to get to know other people, other countries and different cultures. Senators of the Enviroment: An Intergenerational Project on Education and Environmental Awareness
The community management success story from the CBNRM I choose to investigate explored how the elderly and young schoolchildren can be influenced to take environmental action while working together. One of the goals of this project was to revitalize natural resources such as streams, the coastal area and the salt marshes and the possibly develop these resources for…

I interviewed many friends of mine by asking them what they know about city resilience and especially in Brunswick. Most of them mentioned the still existing bunker built during the WW2. They should protect the citizens while bombing attacks. When I asked whether they know about more examples of city resilience in Brunswick, no one had an answer. I informed my friends about the facts I finded out.
I think the main reason of this is the missing action according city resilience since…

On the UN womenwatch I found the new story "American girls raise awareness and money to fight child marriage in four countries", including an very informative interview with Gina Reiss-Wilchins, Director of the Girl Up campaign.
Every day, girls as young as five years old are robbed of their childhood because they cease being girls and become brides.
However, thousands of American girls between the ages of 13 and 18 who are outraged after learning about child marriage are…

I started an experiment in my residential community, with time as currency. I really enjoyed the idea of "Time Banking" and wanted to test how it works under real life conditions.
We are using minutes as the basic currency unit. We planned to cover reciprocal services between friends which should stay unaffected by money, for example cooking, dish-washing and various helps between friends. Time passed over a service will be recorded and added to the helpers time account. So every…

After looking at the title “the future of money” I remembered the film “In Time” I watched in cinema. The film describes a world where time completely replaced money as the only currency. Although this film contains many unrealistic elements, it gives us an overview how it could work with time as currency.
Using time as currency also exists in the reality. After reading some articles I know Time Banking as an alternative monetary system. A Time Bank is a pattern of reciprocal…

You can support The Water Project in several ways:
-Sponsor a well
-Start a fundraiser
-Participate in The Water Project
On average a water project can be completed for at little as $7,000. The costs include preparing the community for a water project, actual construction and the long-term monitoring. I decided to donate 15$ to The Water Project. Although its not much but every donation is needed. You can also donate under…

To unterstand the seriousness of the water crisis, the following statistics can help you to imagine its impacts.
Do you already know?
- Worldwide, 1 out of 5 deaths of children unter 5 is due to a water-related disease. Minus the children from the industry countries this rate is even higher in the rest of the world.

In 2020 agriculture still consumes a very high percentage of the worldwide freshwater, followed by industry and household. During the fast technology development in order the save water, the consumers’ attitude also plays a significant role. With the right use of water a big part of water could be saved by the same technology.
In order to impart the knowledge to farmers, industry and households “water-saving” theme parks in several big cities around the world are opened in the World…

Today is the Chinese New Year in 2022. My husband and I invited our best friends to our house to spend this very special day. We are cooking typical Chinese together like all Chinese do today. During this we are watching Chinese television till the midnight. At this moment we are consuming a lot of electricity, but nothing from the grid. Our house generates itself completely.
Our house looks quite futuristic from the outside: with a small wind turbine and 2 metallic tons on the top of…

I am thinking of a home water storage system which can be used to generate electricity for daily demand at home. For Germany with enough unused rainfall this system could generate a significant part of the needed power consumption.
A water storage tank, installed on the roof of houses and residential blocks, can collect the rainwater on a high spot. By using the potential energy from falling down an electric generator produces electricity, which can be stored in battery or used…

In 2020 I imagine myself living with my family on our ranch. We have homegrown fruits and vegetables. On the other side we have our own cows and hens. It’s March 10, 2020 my husband and I prepare the children a delicious Chinese dinner. All above vegetables and fruits we could get from our garden. I planned a vegetarian dinner: Beijing soup as the starter and Chinese dumplings, filled with egg, tofu and garlic chives, as main course. It tastes so good and reminds me of my homeland.
In…

Food security is always the hidden danger of the big countries. As an agricultural country of 1.3 billion populations, China's food security status is more pronounced and has great significance. It could be said that if our food security is a problem, then agriculture will become a problem, the wh*** national economic operation will be negatively influenced, social stability and national security may be affected, that would even affect the stability of the world's economy.
So China…

I come from China and currently study in Brunswick, so I don’t have a local garden to cultivate. Recently after my arrival in Germany I realized there are significant differences in agriculture between both countries.
Although China is a big country, every single fertile land is used to plant vegetables in order to solve the lack of food for the 1.3 billion people.
In contrast, Germany owns a lot of fertile land staying unused because of the expensive labor. So a high percentage…

In 2022 I will have a satisfying job in Germany which allows me to work for a better cooperation of German and Chinese markets. Hopefully I can fully use my potential of being a Chinese to build up a communication bridge between China and Germany. Based on my job I want to travel around the world and meet new cultures and friendly people from other countries. Hopefully I can live with my husband, two children and parents in the same city and do a lot of things together. When the food crisis…

The hero I decided to follow is Arvind Gupta, an Indian toy inventor and populariser of science. I chose him because I am very impressed by the work he is doing.
He is currently working at the Children's Science Centre. His enthusiasm for teaching children about science using self-created toys using locally available materials, usually trash, is amazing and inspirable. I visitedhis wonderful website and found the long list…
