Future Epidemic: Egomania

To the people of Ushahidi,

It is equally disastrous and ridiculous that I must bring to your attention my home's current outbreak of egomania. Long have we been a people proud of our abilities and accomplishments, but recent developments have led this mindset to a state of national crisis. Likely even global.

It began innocently enough with a drive for affordable food and a simple, safe lifestyle. This meant farms, houses, roads and stores. And it worked. With this strategy,… Continue

At-Home Water Conservation Tips

There's a women's group in my area called The Butterfly Effect. It's a group that focuses on empowering women in business and life, and one of their mandates is to give back to the community. One of their current projects here in Kelowna is placing inexpensive healthy water dispensaries across town to help dissuade people from purchasing disposable bottles. Being a not-woman, I am not a part of this group.… Continue

The Wasteland of Water

Here in North America, water crisis goes by another name: Wastefulness.

A toilet uses 2-3 gallons of water every time it's flushed. Most people here flush even when they urinate.

Showers use 3.5 gallons of water per minute. Most people shower every day.

A front-load washing machine uses about 15 gallons of water per load. A top-load machine uses 40.

You add in the water people use to wash their cars, water their lawns, clean their dishes, etc; and things… Continue

Keblargens Day!

Gaflabendary 1st, 2020.

Twelve months ago the MassShift occurred, slingshotting the Earth out of its orbit. Eventually coming to equilibrium another 7 million kilometers away from the sun, the Earth re-entered orbit of Sol with virtually no effects to human lifestyle. Except for two:

1. We victoriously stumped global warming by 2°C.

2. Earth's now larger orbit forced the creation of a new month: Gaflabendary.

Today, being the first of Gaflabendary, is the long… Continue

Rockin' Chair Generator

I sit for hours every day playing video games. All in all, not the most sustainable of my activities. So, why not create a rocking chair with a generator in it, so that while I lounge there lazily in a semi-catotonic state, at least I can be generating the electricity for my gaming system (or tv, computer, electronic paint dryer, whatever I'm watching at the time). This could be doubly good, as it would force moderate abdominal exercise during the process, and reduce the guilt of being a lazy… Continue

Please Bees, Don't Go

“If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would

only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination,

no more plants, no more animals, no more man.”

This quote has been accredited to Albert Einstein. This is probably untrue.

What is true, however, is that honey bees are vanishing every year, and this… Continue

April 2020 - New Growth City

It's April 2020; planting season.

We're ready this year, a thankful change. It's been... challenging. Getting it all together, making it all work. Learning the ins and outs of self-reliance after a lifetime of depending on others. We nearly starved that first winter. Nearly froze too! There's a lot art in building a sustainable food source, and a sustainable home; and it isn't without its mistakes.

We're doing better every year though. There's a hundred of us now, since that… Continue

The Dollar Vote

Make It Inexpensive

The ma**** have made this priority number one. Poverty requires it, savings promote it, and profit is born from it.

The main demand that shapes our world: We want more, and we want it for less. Less meaning money.

We're smart. No problem. Let's do it.

Let's monocrop. One crop means one of everything. One way to grow it, one way to feed it, one time to water it, one way to pick it, process it,… Continue

Money after the Fall

Aprilish, 2020

The New Money

"They're currency because they're rare, and they're useful. They're currency because anywhere you go, they equal food."

Traditional money— bills, coins, bank accounts— were a hallmark of the Falling. Their steady drop in value came to shadow the tale of a culture that lost its worth. And when the dust settled, a new form of primate came to roam this earth. One not so fascinated by numbers on paper, a… Continue

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
