Most major cities are near the ocean. Wave energy is a predictable source of renewable energy.
Ocean Power Technologies is a company that has developed power buoys. I see wave energy as a great source of renewable energy for utility scale desalination and coastal communities. They don't have the eye sore issue of offshore wind.
Maybe in distant future they could even power
offshore… Continue

Americans have a choice when they travel. I encourage all to look into taking the train when they travel.
The train is more efficient than air or auto. In my opinion, the big savings come from taking cars and trucks off our congested roads.
Rail is also the verge of moving from diesel to hydrogen fuel cell.… Continue

Micro-finance is a great way to empower women in the developing world. There is significant potential for micro-finance to enable women to challenge
and change gender inequalities at all levels of society. Economic power generally leads to equal human rights and equal property rights.
My family lends to women entrepreneurs through
Kiva.org.
Kiva is a great organization that has lent millions all over the world. I have made over 40… Continue

San Antonio Texas is full of suburbs and sprawl. Residential water use is a big drain on our fresh water natural resource, the Edwards Aquifer.
Armed with data from the local water utility, we would put a sign in the yard of the house with the least water use in each subdivision. The sign would read, "Water Saver Winner for 2020". Each winner would receive a rebate on their water bill as an award. We would continue this from year to year, creating a friendly rivalry between…

The Edwards Aquifer, one
of the
major groundwater systems in Texas serving approximately 1.7 million
people. While the Edwards Aquifer serves as the primary source of
water to a growing region of south central Texas. Cities, towns, rural communities, and farm and
ranch lands all depend on the aquifer's water for household,
agricultural, industrial and recreational purposes. Management of this resource is essential… Continue

Company is reducing the cost of Desalination. A large percentage of the world's population lives near abundant supply of salt water. Energy Recovery, Inc. is engaged in developing, manufacturing and
selling energy recovery devices for selling in the seawater
desalination. There are two methods of producing drinking water from seawater:
thermal distillation and membrane or reverse osmosis desalination.
Thermal distillation involves heating seawater, capturing the vapor…

My solar installer , Standard Renewable Energy (
SRE) called today and said I should have my 2.45 KW system in about three weeks. After the installation, the panels should provide about 30% of my home's energy.
Its a start.
I'll post photos of the system.

The easiest way to power an everyday appliance is switching from from an electric dryer to a clothes drying rack. Our family purchased one some time back and have not used the electric clothes dryer for months.

In 2020, the food supply will be more decentralized. Farmers will generate their energy needs on-site from renewables. Cheap clean sustainable water supply remains the biggest hurdle for farmers now and in 2020. I think the answer will be good engineering solutions.

San Antonio does not face a shortage of food. Our issue is the cost of healthy food vs unhealthy. In San Antonio an apple is more expensive than candy. Those on the lower end of the socioeconomic scale find difficulty in paying for healthy meals.
This is an unfortunate side effect of the industrialization of the food supply.
Last year I started a family garden. I found that growing some of my own food was cost saving. It also provided some light exercise working in the…

3. Embrace market mechanisms (Giving stuff away rarely works as well as
selling it.)
Using market forces in a community (developed or undeveloped) creates an internal sustainable flow capital which provides jobs, products and services. This flow becomes self perpetuating and will eventually become self sustaining.
Empowering women in the community with equal human rights, education and property rights is a major catalyst to getting a community to self sustaining…
