After speaking to a few people in the library, they didn't know anything about Vancouver's Resilience program. This may be because they are quite busy with school and work commitments and aren't locals. As they are under 20, I educated them on what Vancouver is doing with their Youth Outreach program. This is a program to engage youth on the importance of voting as well as educates them on policy… Continue

As I live in Vancouver where it rarely snows in winter, the citizens are generally unprepared for heavy snow. During a heavy snowstorm when the city would be shut down (no snowplows), the ushahidi system would be useful in sharing information about stores that were open, buses that were running, and public locations in the city that were heated. If a part of town was experiencing a power outage at the same time, then the citizens could mobilize to provide assistance to those in need as well as… Continue

This March 23rd 2010 UNICEF blogpost shares the recent partnership between UNICEF and Cricket Namibia to promote sport and play as key elements in the health and well-being of children and
youth. The objective of the Kwata Cricket joint venture in Namibia is to increase awareness and to decrease the stigma associated with people that live with HIV/AIDS.
A new initiative by Venmo is designed to assist people in exchanging money among trusted friends using mobile text messaging. It is also being used to quickly raise money for charitable endeavours.
Peter Groverman from Pennsylvania, USA used Venmo to quickly organise relief efforts for Haiti.…
In the year 2020, I would like to build on the Flash Mob Music ideas that became more common around 2010, 2011 and have a Flash Mob Water Dance initiative. This is different from people getting together to have a pillow fight or water gun fight in the park, but would be a constructive effort to provide an awareness of clean, safe water in 2020 which is still a concern in Africa.
What I propose is that at noon in the train station of major cities around the world (e.g. London, New York,… Continue
I learned about charity: water in 2009 during Twestival and I have decided to make an alliance with this organisation. So far, I have signed up for their newsletter, joined their FB page, followed them on… Continue

In 2009, I became aware of Charity Water, a non-profit organisation with a mission to bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Twestival was created as a grassroots initiative to use social media for social good through the organisation of offline events in cities around the world using twitter such as LA, London, and… Continue

In the year 2020, I have travelled to Toronto as the city has been shut down to celebrate the Toronto Maple Leafs ice hockey team winning the Stanley Cup championship for the 1st time since 1967. It is a special day for Leafs fans across the world.
The parade travels down Yonge street using hybrid convertibles to transport the players to Nathan Phillips Square where the celebratory speeches occur. There is a tickertape parade using recycled paper and the electricity used to power the… Continue

I enjoy taking pictures outside and for a small point-and-shoot I would like to propose a hybrid energy source that uses solar power and battery power. When there is sunlight outside or even an artificial light source, the camera will run off solar power via a patch on the top of the camera. When it is dark, the camera would only use battery power, thus increasing the life of the alkaline batteries or need to continuously recharge a lithium pack.

In the year 2020, I'm a photographer living in a high rise in Singapore. I'm eating salmon, rice, mango juice, and fresh salad for dinner. The rice, vegetables for the salad and the mangoes are being grown vertically in a vertical farm skyscraper in my neighbourhood to minimise space. I will be using wind power as electricity in my home, as is already being used by these… Continue
In 2020, I will be living in Singapore as a freelance media guru, doc**enting the world around me for a think talk that explores how new media can be used to affect positive world change. My job would be to travel to different countries and use photography and video to share stories about people that are changing their world on a local level - their neighbourhood, village, school.

The person I'm shadowing is Shira Lazar (@shiralazar). Shira is an energetic individual that participates in tons of charitable events throughout the USA using her video skills to interview thought leaders, which she then tweets about. This is her talking about the value of clean water for Twestival 2010 - a yearly campaign to use social media for social good http://bit.ly/cZf6V3

Peripheral vision; keep a look out for other challenges or new solutions all the time.
This is my favourite secret. To me, it means to always be ready for when new knowledge is about to hit you in the face. To keep your antenna up so that if something happens, or someone tells you something that could be helpful in a different context or situation, you are ready. One of the axioms of being a good photographer, is to always have your camera ready, in case an opportunity… Continue

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"
This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More
