Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Hello EVOKE,

It is time to get back to work. I have been working on a couple of projects: SEED, Gratitude Gardens, Wind Powered Laptop--but I am interested in what you all are doing?

I think it would be awesome if everyone made a brief reply that explained what they are currently working on, that way we can all offer suggestions and comments!

So come on; What are you evoking?

Thanks, its a start but I bet we could fill 100 pages with everyone's ideas---who's holding out. ahhahaa

I'm currently trying to sit down and figure all this out. Our pace feels fast, very fast. And I just took a trip to South Africa, so I missed a week. I'm working on water security now.

But what I'm trying to figure out is some type of innovative intervention that addresses all of these issues so far -- energy, food, money, water -- through social innovation. I've been reading development economics and trying to decide if the targeted approach or the holistic approach is better. I'm leaning towards targeted in which case I'd love to do something where there is the most impact, and so far that seems like water which has always been on my heart.

I wish we had 2 weeks for each mission. But I'm working on several things--gathering friends for urban farming, starting one on my rooftop, holistic help for the homeless (so job security brings food security and water security).

I'm also building mini-windmill generators for everyday products with a group of middle school (beginning of secondary school) students.

I'm also pondering the water issue. Many people are working on ways to increase access to clean water which is very important, but it seems there's a second issue--increasing the supply of freshwater period. Currently we have enough (in my believe) water for the planet, but it requires proper access, cleaning, and conservation around the world. But still we have many parts that are using water faster than it is replenished by the hydrological cycle and other places that are approaching this. So I'm studying desalination plants and processes.

I am trying to figure out how to save Cuba, my intention with it is to spark an example that could help other developing countries on these hard days of economic hardship.

I'm working on using technology in order to create a mind shift in human consciousness...

@ victor--yes the pace is fast but do what you can. Its a struggle to find a balance between work( the real world) and play (evoke).

@--Ternura Rojas do you at least know what you are trying to save Cuba from?

@Benny Faibish-- wohoo, please tell us more!

My main interest is energy and as such I have two main ideas, one being the recycling of thermal energy and one being the use of wood pellets as a fuel in my local area. There are many other things that I would like to do, but I have to try and keep focused (which is hard if you are an enthusiast!)

@NIck--too true about keeping focused

@Everyone who posted--keep us up to date with blogs/videos/and pics

Lets see..

My project is connecting usda databases of sun and soil into an easily manipulated web interface that needs minimal knowledge about what the planting site has to offer to bring back relevant planting pattern recommendations, cultivars, species and where to buy plants locally. I'm counting on gratitude gardens members to do the leg work for their areas and i'll make it freely available to anyone. I'm also counting on the love gardeners have for their gardens to populate the database.
Its all built around individual plants and what those plants need to survive with minimal care.
Plants go into units which make up guilds which create wh*** self supporting, food producing landscapes. And you don't have to be a permaculturalist or even a gardener to put the units into practice. You just need to know how much sun your site gets, how much water it gets, what your soil is like, where you are, how large of an area you want to plant, how much time you have to take care of it and whether you want to plant a tree, bush or a plant.
The best part, variations on patterns are easily made and go right back into the database.

@ Ursula -- When you accept my friend request message me with some more info about the database. For gratitude gardens I am working on designing the research aspect and tapping into existing databases is essential. I made a blog about the current state of Gratitude Gardens (G.G)

@ Joshua Z -- Well you know what they say, if you have a problem and you can't solve it yourself, evoke it.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
