The future of money is Trash.
Welcome to my bank of the future...
After having lived in Manila for 6 years, one of the many things that I have come to learn is that trash is currency. This is true for millions of people here and I think that this could be true for many more, across the world, in the future.
I have a dream... that one day in the not too distant future, we stop producing more stuff. We just stop. And this goes for money too. If we stop producing stuff, we would all be forced to re-use what we already have. What we consider trash, really is treasure and there are ample examples, around the world, of this being the case.
Have you seen the first building made entirely out of plastic water bottles?
Did you know that we can recycle just about every component of cars doomed for the trash heap to recreate new ones?
So, inspired by all of these initiatives, I declare that in the future, we should just bank on trash. Bank in trash, bank trash, whatever you will.
Banks could come in all shapes and sizes.
Others might be more specific
Eg. Small scale banks: Deposit your newspapers, and withdraw goods made out of them
Bigger scale banks: trade in your used vehicles to get newly constructed recycled ones.
See photos of things from around my house that could well be withdrawn from these banks of the future:
You can bank on it.
