How to Buy Groceries When You're in Ger District

As mentioned in the previous post, I'm largely focusing on ger district livelihood -- its challenges and possible solutions.

Pictured: Small shops

At a shop like this, you can find pretty much anything ranging from bread loaves, rice and sugar, to laundry detergents and shaving razors. However, not all shops provide essential food items, such as meat, dairy products, fruits and vegetables. Plus, there are wh*** bunch of candies, soft drinks, biscuits.

I mean, I understand candies are good. But they're high glutemes and will only gives you high kicks and exhaust you quickly. Kids these days have way uglier teeth than the kids of 1980s. Thank you, Coca Cola!

But I digress,

The 1st problem with the ger district (and the wh*** city) is that people don't make food items themselves. Most of the food items in consumption are imported biscuits and candies.

The 2nd problem (that goes for the wh*** country) is that there's a lack of food security among ger district people. One of these small shops disappear or fail to bring essential food items from the black market, the ger district people are at the risk of heavy starvation.

"But why don't they just go to the black market instead?" you ask. Well, most of them do. There are black markets that sell things cheaper, where you can find wide range of foods. However, not all the vegetables are safe.

The press reports food poisoning of school children and detection of potatoes fertilized by human feces as often as we clip our nails for hygiene ( mine is once in two weeks, if you have a different window)

So my question is, just what are the possible ways to improve the food security of ger district people?

Thanks for explaining all of that Narantsogt ! To help you, I think that people here will need more informations. I am not so familiar with Mongolia... So, a few questions that may guide us about agriculture there :
- What are the temperature in Ger District during the year (with season variations) ?
- Is there some farmable earth in the surroundings area ?
- How is the earth here ? (with clay, sand, polluted, etc) If you can't find the informations, please tell us what plants are naturally growing in the surrondings area (trees, etc)
- Is there enough water ? What is the humidity in the air, and the rainfall during the year ?
- Is anyone breeding animals in the area, which ones ?
- Is there food restrictions related to religion ?

More general questions :
- What is the literacy rate in this disctrict ? Is there a difference between men and women ?
- What is the unemployement rate ? What are the common jobs between working people of this distrit ? Is there a difference between men and women ? is there other sources of income (fundings from NGO or the state for instance)
- Is there specific health issues ?

It is a lot of questions, and I suppose it is not so easy to answer, but even if you can answer only a few, it would help !! :)

I searched the web for informations, and found that a NGO was working on these issues in Ulanbataar : http://www.actioncontrelafaim.org/nos-missions/nos-missions-dans-le... (in French)
They seem try to fight food issues in several ways : distributing food and creating vegetable garden, teaching how to grow basic vegetables, distributing seed...
Did you heard about them ? Maybe you should try to contact them ?

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
