I looked at
Kiva earlier this week and thought it was a great idea, and had that sort of vague "maybe I'll look into that sometime" thought. Then this morning, I read Agent Riko Kamachi's post on the
Urgent EVOKE lending group at Kiva. What a neat idea -- EVOKErs banding together, each contributing a little, to make a difference!
I went back to Kiva, joined the group, and made my first loan. I chose to lend to
Soukeye Ndiaye, a fruit juice vendor in Senegal. I'm pleased to say that in the two hours since I made my loan, her request has been fully funded! She will buy more fruit and equipment with this loan. The Urgent EVOKE team is one of the top lending teams for this loan.
If you have been waiting for an excuse to look at
Kiva, let this be it. It's so powerful that technology can enable people with a little extra to lend money to those who really need it to improve their lives. Be sure to join the Urgent EVOKE team if you do sign up!
