A crash course in changing the world.
I choose the story " “I Wish…” UN Women captures Egypt’s first Human Chain against Sexual Harassment" from the WomenWatch news feed.
In May 2012 a campaign "Nefsi" meaning "I wish" against sexual hatassment took place in Egypt.
Inspired by snowballing, 80 participants distributing messages on paper sheets lined the sidewalks in Mohandessin, a Cairo thoroughfare. It was the country's first "human chain" against sexual harassment. Amog the participants there were women as well as men. They held their messages in order to engage pedestrians. They sparked conversations among those shopping, working and commuting, on the sidewalk and in traffic. It also sparked coverage and discussion in newspapers, online portals and blogs
The organizers are already planning other offline street movements, using social media as a multiplier and mobilization tool.
In my opinion this is a great way to reach people regionally but also globally. For such campaign are no significant financial resources required, and it is still very effective. People are confronted on the street with this topic and encouraged to think about it. This is one of the most efficient instruments to get something rolling and to reach a wide audience.
There are also other organizations, which deal with this topic "sexual harassment".
