A crash course in changing the world.
I've decided to search within my own experiences and knowledge to find a social entrepreneur to be my "hero". This strategy, as opposed to reaching out for new knowledge or influences, highlights an important concept in the social innovator's world - Applying creative and new ideas to old and existing entities. I am using the limited resources that I posses to innovate a creative solution to the problem (in this case the evoke mission).
That being said, my 'Hero' is Britney W. (I am fb friends with her/business and recieve their marketing emails). She's not exactly solving the world's problems, but if you will venture forward with me you'll see the applications of her business as a possible model for solving real-world problems in developing countries.
Problem:
I've always wanted to be painter, but never wanted to learn how to draw (a basic steping stone) or learn the actual brush strokes or techniques of being an artist.
So I went into a store to buy everything I need. $5 per brush! $10 per tube of paint! $15 for a small canvas! -extremely expensive for an unconditioned beginner! It would have easily cost around $200 to get properly set up.
Solution:
Here I will breifly summize Britney's business: $35 per head get's you a 16"x20" canvas and all the supplies you need to recreate a specific painting that she leads you through stroke for stroke. Everyone goes home with their own unique masterpiece at a fraction of the cost.
Parallels:
Leapfrogging Technologies (skipping the pencil and paper)
Reducing Costs ($35 vs $200)
Providing Skills/Empowering Individuals (showing the consumers how to make brush strokes for themselves)
Application:
Almost like a "flash commune" that benefits a group for an individual shared purpose.
This model could potentially supply consumers of undeveloped nations with the knowledge and products necessary to purify water, administer first aid, prevent the spread of disease, etc...
Maybe it could be used as a means of cost-effectively and socially cleaning clothing or cooking a community meal?
Leapfrogging: an advanced food prep/cooking system
Reducing Costs: Quantity purchasing
Skills/Empowerment: Learning newer more advanced techniques
This could also be used as a marketing technique in gaining advocacy of a new technology.
There's my thoughts on that!
