So my first thought was to shadow one of my childhood heroes: Dr David Suzuki. I'm a fan of him on Facebook and am following him on twitter.
http://www.davidsuzuki.org/
Then I realised he wasn't so personally active at the moment so I turned in the direction of a man I admire and currently follow: Dr Karl Kruszelnicki or Dr K.
Thinking about it I decided that since I already follow him, the exercise would be moot. This was an opportunity for me to find new inspiration! My search continued.
I tried a few broad Google searches and didn't really get anywhere with them, so I started thinking. There are people in technology I admire and whom have traits I aspire towards. But these wouldn't be enough, I really wanted the answer for this challenge to be someone who would inspire me to change the world into something better.
It hit me! My main source of this specific inspiration, my pick-me-up for action (after my family - you guys are really inspiring), was the amazing stories of people on TED.
Suddenly I had the opposite problem: too much choice. But this part wasn't so hard. Last year I saw a video that gave me so much hope for the world. A video that really caught my heart and I haven't forgotten a moment of.
Ryan Lobo captures humanity at it's best, it's worst, it's most vulnerable and I think seeing the stark reality of the human condition is humbling.
The story told in this video is one of the most inspiring things I have ever witnessed.
Now I'm following Ryan Lobo's flikr stream and twitter. After watching the video again I felt the need to send him a message telling him how inspiring it was to me.
I particularly enjoy the photos exposing the lighter side of human nature, people coming together in bad circ**stances and helping each other. Creativity and empathy shining through even when everything is broken around them.
