A crash course in changing the world.
EPISODE 1
CAPE TOWN
The earth moves at different speeds depending on who you are – Nigerian proverb

PANEL A
A solemn looking Alchemy looks out of Hout Bay harbour and into the setting sun. There is something troubling him. Behind him is a news billboard with the message that the seven poachers caught would go free. This is the beginning of the end as far as the natural environment goes. Now the authorities have given the world’s poacher’s free range to massacre once majestic species that are now as close to extinction as they have been in ages.

PANEL A
A wide shot of the Governor’s office. The office is large and well-appointed with an impressive desk. The main feature, though, is the floor-to-ceiling window, and the key light is the setting sun coming through it at an almost horizontal angle. The Governor has turned away from the view and is facing his ASSISTANT, who paces nervously.
ASSISTANT
It’s said the network was responsible for saving Lagos after the maize famine of 2017. But they’ve never taken credit. They never do.
PRESIDENT
So, if they’re real, how do we know they will be able to help?
ASSISTANT
You have to call him Mr. President.
PANEL D
Close up on the Assistant.
ASSISTANT
It has to come from you.
PANEL E
Close up on the Governor.
PRESIDENT
Ok. (dials number on phone)

PANEL A
We see the message sent on the private, encrypted short message network. It is surrounded by a texture of ambient data, and layered on top of a map of Japan and a red locator dot over Tokyo.
MESSAGE TEXT: This is an EVOKE from South Africa. Urgently require tactical social innovation deployment. Category: environmental security. This MUST remain confidential.
PANEL B:
TEXT BOX 1
Dakar, Senegal
A high-tech surveillance room. Computer and video screens relay news and images from all over the world. The star display is a digital world map, covered with data. We can see that the message from the previous panel is a small part of this map. In the foreground is ALCHEMY, in silhouette, sitting at a desk with a keyboard, a laptop, and a pencil and paper in front of him. He wears a wireless headset.
PANEL C
ALCHEMY 1 (to himself – he should have a kind of smile when saying this line. He’s looking forward to the challenge.)
Hello, South Africa.
PAGE 3
PANEL A
In front of Alchemy are seven computer screens with seven people’s faces.
ALCHEMY
I can see you but you can’t see me. That’s the way it should be. You will only know who you are working with when you land in South Africa. Your weapons and supplies are already en-route. Your mission: finish what the South Africa courts could not. Finish the poaching trade. Once and for all. Alchemy out.
PANEL B
Ranger 1 out.
PANEL C
Ranger 2 out.
PANEL D
Ranger 3 out.
PANEL E
Ranger 4 out.

PANEL A
A group of shadows walk across the tarmac of a private air strip towards a waiting figure.
FIGURE IN SUIT
You must be from Evoke?
RANGER 1
We are. You have a pest problem?
FIGURE IN SUIT
We do.
RANGER 1
Lets do some exterminating.
PANEL B
Three kitted out Land Rover Defenders drive in convey through the city towards the outskirts at the break of dawn. Not a soul stirs.
PANEL C
The same three Land Rovers encircle a tent camp. In the middle is a group huddled around a desk with a lamp and some papers and maps scattered across it.
RANGER 1
Ok guys. This is it. No mercy. They have slaughtered enough of our animals and destroyed enough of our natural resources. It’s time for them to get a bit of their own medicine. These are photos of the heads of three of the most violent, vicious and murderous poaching gangs in the world. (He hands each mercenary a folder full of papers.) Tomorrow we ride at first light, get some sleep. You’ll need it!
PANEL D
The campfire burns out as silence settles on the camp and each soldier thinks about what he or she has to do tomorrow.
PAGE 5
PANEL A
Three Land Rovers leave a camp site that has been burnt to the ground. Bloodied bodies are strewn all over, some still clutching AK47’s in what was to be their final stand against the bringers of justice. In the corner a pile of Elephant and Rhinoceros ivory burns and smoulders. Neatly carved into a tree in the far corner of the camp was the Evoke emblem. Just so any other poachers that happen on this place of destruction will know who they are dealing with and that resistance is futile.
PANEL B
Three Land Rovers leave a different camp site but in the same situation.
PANEL C
Again, the same three Land Rovers leave a different camp site but in the same situation as all of the previous ones.
PANEL D
Again, the same three Land Rovers leave a different camp site but in the same situation as all of the previous ones. This was the last camp. All the poachers that the mercenaries came across are dead. Those that ran away know exactly what happened and they are the ones who will tell the message to anyone who even thinks about trying to poach anything again.
PAGE 6
PANEL A
Alchemy looks down at the computer and on each screen is a different poacher’s camp. Each one destroyed as badly as or worse than the one before. They made sure there was no chance that they would be able to recover their poaching operations. A sinister smile crosses his lips as he types a number into the phone.
PRESIDENT
Hello Alchemy. I’ve been expecting your call since I saw those camps on the news. I suppose you want your payment now?
ALCHEMY
No Mr. President. No payment. I will call upon you in the future for a favour. That is all I expect in return.
PRESIDENT
A favour! Is that all? Really?
ALCHEMY
Yes Mr. President. But I warn you, don’t take it lightly!
PRESIDENT
I won’t. But thank you Alchemy. And thank you to your team, they were ruthless!
ALCHEMY
I know. I told them to be…
