Since I already know Rivers of the World, I looked through their site
www.row.org and found World Water Relief. They are putting filters and pumps in villages, up to thousands of gallons per day. They can purify at an ionic level without electricity (with certain metals) and have already been successful in may desolate villages.
Water for the World,
http://waterfortheworld.net/, is another site with an organizaiton putting pipe lines in to schools, hospitals, towns like Sichuan, China and
Abruzzi.
Water filtration systems are being given to families in Cambodia to filter run off and river water. These "10 gallon buckets with a spigot" have a coal filter that needs to be changes periodically but at minimal cost. Churches and individuals are supplying the funding to put these filters in rural communities of Cambodia through missions projects. (Kingsburg Community Church for example.)
There needs to be a focus on catching run off and water storage as well as a continued focus on wells and purification systems.
