My envisioned design would entail a simple 11"x17" solar film that can adhere to a sunny window. This solar source would supply power to a stick that has ports/plug ins for phones/battery powered drills or anything that can plug into an outlet for a recharge.

It is my 46th Birthday, and lucky me, I am surrounded by my loved ones! gifts such as Poems, Music, sweaters, handcrafted instruments, and in the evening, all lit by Biogas lamps, and heated by the locally installed Heat pump!
How lucky am I to have food grown in a locally sustainable fashion, and organically made. From the mead to the cake, what more could a man ask for!

Due to an increase in recent UV related Illness and skin conditions, I have noticed that Parasols are comming back into season, and Umprellas are being used in a number of places. Imagine, with teh new paper thin photovoltaic cells, making a parasol, or sunshade. In teh handle of said device is a small charging station with swappable rechargeable batteries. Said batteries can be used to power a low use Laptop, an MP3 playe, even a Nightlight, or head lamp!

Considering that we wont be regularly using nanotech to produce cheap photovoltaic sheets for a solid decade or two, how about using the old photvoltaic crystal set up in cars, using suction cups, and putting them in the back windows. The average watts per sq foot seems to be between 10 to 15 per sq ft. Seems that anyone with a car window has a spare square foot or two and can replace using grid power with solar. This also could attempt to balance some of the carbon emissions that the car is…

nowadays, it's like every action that i do has a technology that allows it to generate energy. ever since the boom of personal generators that started with simple dynamo flashlights, people can actually go 'off the grid' and generate enough power for their house, provided that some care is taken to be conservative. i've had a lot of help in both finding out about these gadgets and trimming my own power usage, i've also worked with people to make sure that my house was build with renewable…

My favorite holiday is July 4th, American Independence Day. I served in the military and truly enjoy my country. In 2020 I play on spending my July forth like this:
I wake up in the morning to head to the local farmer's market. My wife and I grab the dogs and through them into our completely recharged electric car. Because we don't spend the money for gas we drive a little farther than the mass market food store to buy locally grown foods. We get our bundle from our community supported…

Here is probably one of the best ideas on the planet :-)
I am sure people are working on this, but it needs to become available to the public and not be expensive.
I propose an outlet, like the ones we use in our homes, that can be portable and taken outside. It is very rare that we work outside in the summer when it isn't super hot outside or not sunny. This type of condition would be perfect for my solar plug idea.
If we could make a battery powered system that ran…

I love all of you guys, you're all so brilliant and deep down hopeful. They are wonderful characteristics, and you all show them with gusto.
As opposed to saying to each of you "I'm not quite sure..." for when you say a money-less system is great, and getting into a little bit of an argument I want to settle the score right now. I don't think the current money system works, and it will only get worse. However, this is the system we have. It is set in place, and nothing…

Okay, it's my birthday, March 12th 2020. I'm 45. I get up early and look at the small but enticing pile of presents from my family and loved ones. Before they wake, time to work out. I attach a couple of electrodes to my body and switch on my Wii- 3rd Generation. Within a couple of minutes, I'm working out. The energy I'm producing is transmitted to the smoothie maker, and while I exercise, a refreshing smoothie, made from seasonal and local produce, is blended for me. As I move into my warm…

Figuring out how to act on the water crisis is tricky. Yes, you can donate money, but thats scarce. I'd rather do something concrete; help in the actual process.
I first visited waterforpeople.org & friended them on facebook. Changemakers led to self.org, a pretty sweet project that uses solar energy to provide drip irrigation that has been implemented in several villages. The big changes are solar from gas(pump power) & ability to grow things in the dry season, which is like…

"The United Nations marked World Water Day on Monday (March 22, 2010) with a warning that unsafe water kills more people than wars and all other forms of violence combined. According to the World Health Organization, 1.5 million people under the age of five die every year from water-related diseases." [Sourced from

As the article pointed out, the only obstacle to total energy independence is the political and economic barriers that exist because of the money system. Without a money system, the world would be much closer to eradicating imagined boundaries between countries that separates common Humanity.
From The
Independent:
Europe could meet all its…

There's a lot of Texas currently unused - a blasted wasteland of baked earth, actually, not great for farming or living and the land is going cheap.
My hope for my family reunion with in-laws in Texas is that we spend it at a resort completely powered by solar farms that have taken over the unused parched lands of this state. Where no food can be grown, where no animal or habitat can flourish (possibly bc of climate change) we are at least harvesting the sun to power our air…

Provide skills, not just finished technologies. The current revolution in design for developing countries is the notion of co-creation, of teaching the skills necessary to create the solution,
rather than simply providing the solution. By involving the community throughout the design process, you can help equip people… Continue

Everything we need to do to become 100% sustainable boils down to having two things: enough
renewable energy and the
time to use it.
The good news is that we have more than enough renewable energy available to us to do everything we need. The question is whether we will have enough time to use it, to clean up our global messes before numerous ecological crises become…

So I wanted to find this article I remember reading about a shipping container sized machine someone had developed that contained solar panels, a small wind turbine, and even a biomass generator. The idea was that you could put this thing down in an area and just crank out power, but unfortunately I can't seem to find it anywhere.
What I did find was something similar, perhaps even better! This company Ecosphere has created another shipping container sized device which acts as both a…
