In story 1, I hastily gobble down my big mac and super-sized fries while behind the wheel of my car that I am driving, alone, to work. The radio blares and I worry about what is going to happen at the office today. Frankly, I barely notice the food; I have too much else going on. Gastronomic multi-tasking. In 2020, I will be, finally, retired. I will be able to devote myself to helping people deal with the health issues that I have overcome, and to fostering cultural understanding based on all of the anthropological work I have done. I will be available, in particular, to help with project dealing with the confluence of health, illness, and culture.

I have decided to follow Anand Shah for this project, and I have subscribed to his blog. Mr. Shah works primarily in India, a country that has welcomed me and been incredibly important in my development and my career. For this project, I would actually like to combine several of the "secrets." I see a lot of connection between "not fighting culture," "going where the action is," "listening to the right people," and "trying to live on $2 a day." As a cultural anthropologist, what I am good at, and what I have been trained to do is to participate, observe, listen to people, and to gradually develop an understanding of how they see the world.
