In story 1, I hastily gobble down my big mac and super-sized fries while behind the wheel of my car that I am driving, alone, to work. The radio blares and I worry about what is going to happen at the office today. Frankly, I barely notice the food; I have too much else going on. Gastronomic multi-tasking. When I get to the work, I get out my wheelchair and start heading for the office. Of course, I lost my feet to diabetes long ago.
In story 2, I eat a slow meal of locally grown vegetables with a small portion of meat. I enjoy the company of my wife (and perhaps grand-children) while I eat. The food is simple but very flavorful the way food is when it comes out of Sue's garden. Since many other people have changed their eating habits as well, the global shortages have been avoided (of course a lot of science helped as well). I complain a bit about the cost of local and organic food, and I probably don't often stop to be as grateful for my blessings as I should be.
I hope I choose the right scenario.
