Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Hello EVOKE,

It is time to get back to work. I have been working on a couple of projects: SEED, Gratitude Gardens, Wind Powered Laptop--but I am interested in what you all are doing?

I think it would be awesome if everyone made a brief reply that explained what they are currently working on, that way we can all offer suggestions and comments!

So come on; What are you evoking?

Jen, I'm in the very same boat as you, trying to put a 3D vision into a 2D space of text. It's not always so easy to decide which angle to shoot for to give the best picture of what you are so excited about. :-)

I am still evoking ways to communicate the urgency of water and developing effective partnerships with select water related charities and specific investment funds that are investing in pro-water social innovations. I am looking forward to develop an ecosystem (off-line) that can connect investment, product innovations, Indian government & committed non profits all working together under the thematic expression of water security.

I won't name anything in specific since I do not feel the need to do so as I am not seeking funding from WBI. I am here at Evoke to forge connections and unlearn ways to discover new patterns that are emerging in social innovations elsewhere in the world and gather as much of information and examples as I can in these ten weeks of the game. I am convinced that I can make a difference in my unique way. As much as I am set to applaud all those who are putting up an evokation, I don't wish to be in any way involved to do so in my personal capacity.

I am leveraging my limited contacts within the Indian administration & political system, with one particular erstwhile Royal family that I have access to coupled with a select high net-worth individuals whom I consider as potential supporters to make this partnerships happen. My efforts are going to be private and selective in nature. They will not be created in a rush and they would not seek any endorsements. Just simple prayers from genuinely generous agents here (not those with arm chair compassion) is enough. However, to my delight and surprise, I have discovered that a select few of the agents have expressed their willingness to assist me if the need be at some stage.

I am however using this Evoke platform to urge my fellow agents to respond to "Did you drink water today?" - an effective punchline I conceived personally to cross-leverage the digital opportunity initiative in showcasing the wonderful video that Charity:Water has developed. That is Mission Awareness to further the interests of Charity:Water in Africa. Personally, I remained as donor to a few of water based non-profits in my individual capacity over the years and have provided pro-Bono consulting to most of them where I am a financial donor.

Mark, my own Evokation idea might combine well with yours, or at least be able to share many resources. My intention is to have an open wiki site that functions something like an elementary school (for all ages!) focused on the basic needs for human living. With the overall goal of offering a welcoming virtual space for everyone to be both teacher and student in raising the quality of life for every individual on the planet (and off!). The focus will be on very simple, practical, affordable ways to get more quality things into the human body, and to use more effectively the things that human bodies produce. And the site will primarily be aimed at appealing to kids ages 7-13, but the virtual school will open to all ages to learn and teach. Sort of like Instructables meets home-ec class meets the scouts. The tagline right now is The Human Powered School. :-)

@Turil - Sounds like a good idea. Let's compare notes. Do you know anybody else focusing on education related Evokations?

Wow, so many interesting projects! I'm especially keen on the education-related ones that Turil and Mark are doing. I'm still developing a curriculum to use an EVOKE-like structure so that students can research global problems, then design and implement local solutions. It's coming along -- I have a few more ideas to add this week. It's open to anyone who is interested in helping out. I will be adding a section near the top with ideas for how folks can dip in and contribute (hopefully later tonight).

I'm so glad that we, as agents, have so many diverse interests. There are many problems facing us as a species, and it's inspiring to see different people with different aptitudes and passions take on each of them, without anyone having to work them all.

Mark, I know that there's an Education Guild on some wiki somewhere, started by Caroline Meeks. It seems pretty quiet there now, and I'm not sure Caroline is participating in EVOKE anymore, but that's a good place to start looking for other folks interested education projects.

@Turil - that's actually the wiki I started, and some of the projects are active, but not all of them got picked up. Did Caroline also set something up? She's awesome, I'd love to see what she has been up to.

Oh, Ninmah, I didn't know! I just remember reading that Caroline was talking about starting a guild, after her son started one for geeky stuff, and I got that link off of her post. Sorry about missing out on the origins of the wiki.

@Turil, it's no problem, I am just interested in what she *did* start! I'll go see if I can track it down :-)

Well, I *was* contemplating the next chapters in my continuous ongoing Imagine story, but now I am completely sidetracked. So many fascinating things starting to happen! Great catalyst, Wintermute.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
