Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

"Innovation (often) comes from constraint (If you’ve got very few resources, you’re forced to be very creative in using and reusing them.)"

Some years ago, I wanted to go to a science fiction convention. But the cost to do so, even if I cut corners, like sharing a room, would tap me out. But I really REALLY wanted to go.

Hm. Need to make money. What do I have on hand? Well, trash is always a good place to start. And I had a few other materials laying around. Okay, let's go see!

I went out to the nearby field and found several sticks of different sizes. Also some gravel. Oh, look! A plastic bottle.

I brought these things home and, using glue, paint, and marbles I had on hand, fashioned a couple of monsters. One was a big, shaggy, scary-looking guy with big teeth and sharp claws, and glossy staring eyes. The other one was a little, cute fellow. He held a leash, made out of some fiber I had on hand.

They both sold at the art show, and between them, paid for my membership.

You sure have some guts. Trash collecting is sometimes beyond my reach.
It's probably rare to see someone using 'trash' as something useful, and it's also funny to be seen collecting trash. People would rather buy new stuffs instead.
But yet, you took your initiative to do this, very well.

Yes, the world is abundant with a wealth of resources, as long as we embrace our natural born creativity to play!

My first login broke, so this is me under another name (Hey! A sock puppet!)

Gabriel Stephanus: Beyond your reach? Try this question: Every time I "throw something away," I stop and think to myself, "What could I make with this?" It's easier where I live, because we have a strong arts community, so if your seen "dumpster diving," you come across as "creative," and people will often ask you what you're going to make with this stuff.

Turil Cronburg: It is often easier to find new ways of doing things if we're playing than if we're trying to be serious. If we're Serious, there might be (gasp!) Consequences!!

Jan Lampe: I do have a couple of pictures. I should dig those out.

Omri or something: Thank you! But be assured: "Ingenuity" is a skill, not a god-given characteristic. Just takes practice, a willingness to fail, and a disregard for what "other people will think." I got a head start on that last, because I enjoy being regarded as an "oddball"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
