Future for Women

With advances in the media, technology, and the global pursuit of a more democratic society, I predict that the future for women is looking very bright. I predict that women will be more involved in the workplace. With the advancement of technology, certain jobs such as law enforcement, construction, and civil service jobs. These jobs were mainly male dominated because of the requirement of physical labor but as technology increases the need for such physical labor may diminish opening the…

My 100 year old Indigenous Knowledge

If I were 100 years old and had to pass down indigenous information, I would share the secrets of a clean environment and a lush environment. By preserving forests and green areas, it keeps the city clean, it cleans the air lowering pollution, enhances the appearance of the city and preserves the ever shrinking environment. In addition, it preserves the smaller town feel, keeping the original feeling of the area.

Water Pollution in Delhi

I found an issue in Delhi where they cannot get the proper equipment in order to filter their water systems. The town cannot get this equipment because they refuse to pay the bribes requested by the inspectors. This shows a small problem in a local town that could be easily prevented, however, individuals refuse to let it happen for the better of the community.

Bluffton Year 2020

After working for my hometown of Bluffton for their resilience plan for 2020, I am finally complete. My main goal was to keep as much of the town green as possible. We preserved thousands of acres as forever wild, restricting building on the property. In addition, we added multiple neighborhoods increasing the population cap to 100,000.

Charleston County Resiliency Plan

According to the Charleston County Comprehensive Plan 5-Year Review, the county plans on "Completing a detailed food and farm a****sment that maps the local food shed and the farmland required to support it and that makes recommendations regarding planning for a more resilient food supply by protecting adequate land and farms in the surrounding region". This is Charleston Counties Resiliency Plan.

Urban Warning System

Ushahidi is a very useful application that can allow people in the surrounding area about potential problems in the area. I believe a good way to warn the public about issues in the United States is using the iPhone idea with Amber Alerts. Currently, Apple has a system where if you are in a certain area where the Amber Alert is issued, you automatically get a message on your iPhone. This idea could be utilized with natural disasters etc. and applied to multiple different devices, not just…

Empowered Women of 2020!

Vocational & Life Skills Training For Afghan Women from globalgiving.org is one of the best programs to fund in my opinion. Currently under the terrorist regimes in Afghanistan, they are severely oppressing women and preventing them from exercising their basic rights. By donating to this fund, you would be giving women in Afghanistan the power and ability to rise above the barriers and exercise their rights. By educating these women, you will allow them to understand that the oppression…

Afiya (which means health in Ugandan) is a young woman about to go to college in the year 2020. She studied at a school which was built out of bricks payed for with money from this website! Thanks to the generosity of the Evoke community, Afiya was able to gain an education which would otherwise have been denied her. She, along with her three younger sisters will now have a chance to make the most of their talents and attend university. This new trend of educated females has caused a…

I spoke about this issue to my friends and tried to help raise awareness of the global plight of women. They seemed very interested and we have discussed trying to raise the 30 USD for the 500 bricks to build a school in Uganda.

Since the links to the databases of examples were not working, I found my own from what we covered in my political science class today. The Surfers of Puerto Rico are an excellent example of a group of people who's knowledge of the environment constitutes wisdom which should be passed down. In the video (link below) the surfers consistently point out their closeness to the ocean and it's indigenous life. These people have developed a bond with, and understanding of the ocean and its…

To the people of the future, I would pass on my extensive knowledge of the local flora. I spend much of my life camping and have an excellent working knowledge of what plants may be consumed and what plants should be avoided. I know where these plants live, how they can be found, and how to harvest them and make them into healthy food. Things like wild grapes and onions, sassafras trees, and pine trees are all indigenous plants to South Carolina which can keep someone alive out in the…

Saving the planet's water one donation at a time!

In an effort to form an alliance with a water conservationist, I sought to research the best ways for me to better provide for a water-rich society. In my search, I discovered many organizations and various ways to help, but one group that stood out most to me is the Water Charity. Through productive and community organizing programs, Water Charity seeks to provide funds for needed projects to help bring water and different resources to regions of the world in need. My participation in this…

The water crisis and how we effect it on a closer scale

In an approach to better help those of the United States and other well-developed nations around the world see the use of water in the community, I have developed a mini ecosystem containing a neighborhood of several homes on a single sanitation/water system. In the project, individuals will be able to examine a neighborhood from eye level in an effort to better understand water and its use as well as possible waste in our water systems. The ecosystem of the neighborhood which is comparable…

Uganda's Water Crisis

After carefully reading up on the water crisis in Uganda, I discovered that there are several programs taking a stand against the cruel and unforgiving water depressions that the nation faces year round. According to Water.org, several foundations under the organization operate with "microfinancing" institutions to provide loans for water and even sanitation efforts to better provide the villages of the nation with healthier living conditions. These two serves feed into a program associated…

Eastern Uganda and its approach to indigenous knowledge in climate change

In a remote region of Uganda lies a region referred to as the Teso Sub-region. Home to some of Uganda's oldest elders, the region houses multiple villages that still maintain traditional and often unrecognizable practices. Some of these practices tackle the problem of climate change in the region. In a scholarly article published by Anthony Egeru, I learned that these practices have helped the villagers of this region cope with the mild and sometimes increasing temperatures. Such practices…

Act 1

José Mujica, former president of Uruguay would be my choice because of his humility and generosity. He was known as the poorest president of Uruguay, not because the salary was so low but because he decided to donate the majority of his salary to charities. He even gave up living in a luxurious presidential mansion to keep on living on his little farm. He kept up with his farmer duties including with his presidential ones but he kept on living a life of humility and that is something that i…

Live on $2 a day:

I believe this is the best option to truly learn what it is like to live in the shoes of others because it helps you understand the value of a dollar, as unoriginal as it may sound, it is the simplest way to put it. You learn to work for what you have and since $2 dollars doesn't do much for you today then you learn to fend for yourself and scavenge and know what it's like to have nothing in this world, to lose everything. Once you have been put in one of the lowest…

A warning to the future of our people and growing ecosystem:

Greetings,

I come upon you with an urgent but last message. During my lifetime I have personally witnessed and continue to recognize the dangers of fossil fuels in our environment. These such pollutants come from vehicles beyond the legal rate of emissions, cigarettes, the burning of plastic and other resources, etc. Let it be understood that these actions will continue to lead to a daunting future that may contain severe health risks prove to make life difficult for inhabitants of…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
