Right. I really don't live all that near a city. So I've set up a facebook group linked to Belfast's Resilience Website.
Hopefully those I've invited will follow the instructions I've set. It, like all things, has the potential to make a difference.…

The importance of building codes was made evident in the weeks following the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. NOW’s Sarah Lynch reports on what Lebanon is doing about safety.
The disastrous earthquakes that recently shook Haiti and Chile came without warning. But their outcomes might lead one to believe otherwise. While Chile saw an earthquake 800 times stronger than that in Haiti, the damage was significantly less—something experts attribute to Haiti’s poor infrastructure.…

Here are a few ways
- An emergency SMS/distress alarm sent out instantly to everyone's cell phone from each service provider.
- A "crisis" alarm in everyones house that works on every possible form of broadcasting to ensure reliability
- A neighborhood shelter/bunker with a dedicated crisis alarm (mentioned earlier) and possibly a person from the government who stays there and ensures the safety of people in the neighborhood.
- A company/government branch that…

Well the idiots went and did it. NO ONE would come together. No one saw
that we all matter and that each life touches the other. One argument
escalated to another. People could not overcome their egos and see that
there is a beautiful world out there. That an ocean of people could come
together in one massive wave and put aside differences. They flat out
forgot the word Love. So we don't really know how or who, some say they
heard a person with his… Continue

I live in an area that deals with hurricanes and tropical storms often in any case an emergency system like ushahidi would aid in helping people get to a safe place from the storm. Also if the storm has already occurred then it would allow us to help find people that are missing or need to be rescued. Not too long ago our coast and Louisiana were effected by hurricane Rita and hurricane Ike during a time like this a system such as ushahidi would have been very helpful in saving lives and even…

A problem Hong Kong could face is a massive food shortage. It relies mostly on food imported from other countries, and not food grown in its own city. If the harvest of other countries aren't good, and they decide not to export any over here, then Hong Kong will have a very big food crisis, and people will starve because there is no food coming in, or being grown by our own people. I would find out which place or shops still had food, and when the next imports could arrive, and send the…

In 3010, maybe they will remember that we started a garden in the Southeast corner (bottom left in this photograph) of the Kissena Corridor Park Gardens. They will have a big celebration to mark the 100th year of gardening there.
Take a look at our videos from the first weeks of this effort:…

Neighbors thought the resilience plans of Houston were pretty unique. In case of an emergency, all the freeways have traffic diverted in one direction on all lanes, and emergency officials are combing the streets for any victims.

Hurricanes and Tornadoes are common in my region. I would track individuals that would be in charge of groups to check on people who might not have been able to leave the disaster area. I would also track the amount of livestock and water and electricity supply. I would make sure food is supplied to those who need it.

On reading the Imagine 7 challenge, the first thought that came to my mind was Kibera – an urban slum housing in Nairobi, Kenya. The word Kibera is commonly thought to be the Nubian term for Forest or Jungle. Encompassing an area of 2.5km2 (a little bit smaller than Central Park in…

My new resilient city in 2020, would have a combination of resilient features. It would be completely self sufficient, with vegeratble gardens that ensure the food security of the wh*** city, it would rely completely on alternative forms of energy such as solar panels and wind energy, would have water purifying systems as well as adequate sanitation and health services. Furthermore, if as it is in an earthquake zone, all the buoldingd will be specially reinforced.
