Ashoka fellows- my social innovation role model

In recent months, everything has been coming together. The more I reflect on interconnectedness, the more connections are being formed. A week before I was sent the link to evoke, I was introduced to Ashoka fellows by a friend. Her sister has been one for 7 years creating a global network of volunteers.
THE PLAN- We are currently creating a network of environmentalists, artists, educators and social innovators to ensure better collaboration here in Manila. Over the last six years of living here, I have met so many incredible people, doing incredible things to eradicate poverty, tackle the trash problem, empower those who have nothing, celebrate human ingenuity... all in isolation. Everyone is spreading the all important word, the same word, and yet there is no ready forum for discussing ideas, partaking in exchanges and helping each other...
So, to find out that my friend's sister is an Ashoka fellow has has been executing a similar PLAN in South Africa for 7 years, was indeed a shocker. A good one.
And here I am, now tracking Ashoka fellows as my heroes on EVOKE, now friends on Facebook, and further fueling my new bond with this wonderful group of people. And so, I will continue to EVOKE...

This is an exciting time, isn't it? The connections are starting to happen as if by magic. You think of something and just by thinking of it, doors open to new connections, to knowledge, to experience and to encouragement. The problems are huge but so is the potential to make it right.

I'm very glad to hear that you are shadowing Ashoka and I hope that will be very productive for you. I'm really glad to hear about your PLAN for Manila, I think Alchemy is interested in the Philippines lately... I am opening up a message window... I am sending him a link to you.

Alchemy is indeed supportive of THE PLAN. +40 COLLABORATION. And I myself am very happy to see your interest in trash – not the most glamorous of subjects, but so important. Nothing points up the contradictions of the human race as well, I think... +10 SUSTAINABILITY. Thank you Bec, nice work...

I'm wondering what you do to 'tackle the trash problem' Do you use recycling incentives. Do you try to build community that operates without needing trash? I look forward to future blog posts.

I am the environment coordinator at a big International School in Manila. This year, we have partnered up with a wonderful NGO, Philippines Community Fund who are not only our service partner but our waste management company. www.p-c-f.org.
Working closely with Jane and the community on pier 18 dumpsite has helped our students gain a deeper understanding of where their trash actually goes and how we can help channel the profits into making a difference; sending children to school, providing families with livelihoods etc. etc. We visit the community, work with the children in the PCF school and sort our trash so that they can better use our materials for various sustainable livelihood projects. We also work with two other great NGOs in the city. All are doc**ented at www.ism-online.org/gogreen. I will post some student-made videos of this partnership soon...

We look forward to seeing them! Trash is a problem almost everywhere you look – and often it's a problem that you don't see.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
