Cigarettes - The alternative currency in Germany

After the war Germany suffered from hyperinflation. The people had much money but it was nothing worth. Cigarettes were limited and had a high value. That is the reason why they used cigarettes as currency.

I tried it this week with a few friends who are smoking but I had no success. The best thing I got for a cigarette was a piece of chocolate.

I think that these days you have to take other things than cigarettes to replace money. Something which has a greater value and… Continue

25 USD micro loan into a better future

Just a minute ago I submitted a 25 USD (round about 20 EUR) micro loan at KIVA for the Ruth Nuwajuna's Group (see here; just scroll down there to see my micro loan (Benjamin / Germany)). The group needs money to invest in fertilizers for her banana plantation in Uganda.

I think a good way to support people in poor countries is to support their businesses with micro loans. On the one hand side they can do important… Continue

Text money

There are lot of new ways to spend money for various purposes since the web 2.0 community grows more and more. But there are still the big players like VISA, Mastercard, Banks and other intermediaries. And where you have intermediaries you have to pay a specific margin for the service.

A different approach I found here. It uses an existing network (mobile phones), with an existing technology… Continue

The world after 100 years

The world after 100 years will have changed a lot. Gas, oil, coal and all kinds of energy sources will have run out. People had to find a way to make energy. But now, energy isn't a question. The scientists created more and more things that don't need energy to work through the years. Cars no longer need oil, and the machines don't need electricity, too.

It's a new skill. You don't have to do anything to make the things work. The scientists also can use simple things to make things.… Continue

Being in harmony with environment

I think being in harmony with environment means trying to pollute less to nature. There may be less damage if we don’t pollute too much. We will have cleaner environment as well as better quality of life. There will be a better environment once we pollute less.

There may be less damage because once we pollute environment, it may not be able to keep a balance between nature and our lives. If we don’t pollute too much, there will not be so many disasters. There may not be so many landslides… Continue

My Birthday Party

All of my family and friends are coming over to my place to celebrate my birthday. My condo is located in a relatively small quiet neighborhood powered by a large community windmill just one kilometer from my place. My roof is comprised of solar panels, so I receive alternative means of energy with this method. My father offered to BBQ sausages, steak, hamburgers and shish kobab's on my natural gas BBQ versus my old charcoal BBQ. Since everyone will be conversing and mingling outside, I had to… Continue

Think Before Taking Action

Before you take action to improve someone's life think out the possible benefits as well as the possible consequences your plans could have. For example if you create something to streamline a process then jobs may be lost, on the other hand you could invent something that ultimately creates jobs for those who need them.

drop4drop

In the year 2009, drop4drop began their very first clean water project working alongside their partner charities Global Angels. Their goal is to provide Bio-Sand water Filters to families in the country of Cambodia. If they are able to accomplish this laudable goal, 150 people in a community will receive clean water. Here is a link to drop4drop's official facebook page.… Continue

I looked in my backyard

It's almost 10 months that I'm travelling around the world... reading a lot of international development inspiring stories. Today I didn't feel like I needed more... so I started looking for examples of social innovation in my backyard.. in italy.

I found then my social innovator: Matteo Guidi: http://www.makeachange.it/osservatorio/matteo-guidi.asp

A world that needs no money

I liked the idea of the Star Trek Universe alot: Since they were able to produce any food and had enough of energy there was no need for money anymore.

Maybe in the future we will also be able to archive that. The only thing that will let people move forward is the wish to actually help the human race to reach further goals.

But until then i guess money will never be fully secure. You just have to look at the financial markets and the highly depted governments of alot of… Continue

Service Paradise

“Welcome to “AFD world news” today, I am Hannah and I have some breaking news for you. In Nuremberg a new online business is going to open tomorrow. It is called “service paradise”.

Melanie Meier created this online business. It is an exchange for different services. You do not have to pay money you just have to offer services. In exchange you get services that you need from others. This business works completely without money. It is a great idea. Women who are staying at home and… Continue

Mmmm... food

It's the year 2020. I received a strange call from an agency called Alchemy five months ago regarding a food crisis in Tokyo that desperately needed my help. The only thing is, I HAVE NO IDEA WHO ALCHEMY IS! I vaguely remember the name Alchemy. It sort of sounded familiar but I just could not put my finger on it. I keep repeating the word, "Alchemy, Alchemy, Alchemy" to try and stir up any memories. A mixture of strange words were flooding into my head, "Tokyo...food crisis...Alchemy...… Continue

Future

Future

Today is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the money… Continue

Barbecue

I will be having a little barbecue with my wife, my three kids and the grandparents. We are sitting in the garden of our estate and eating fresh salats and grilled meat, which we bought from a local butcher, who get their meat from local farmers.

We are enjoing the warm and great weather and having a lot of fun. Another great event is happening today: Germany has switched off its last nuclear power station.

Governor: It's been 10 years since the famine. Today, we have

Assistant: Much has changed in the past decade. We relied too heavily on solutions of the past.

Governor: We failed to innovate to sustain our people. Naively, we expected the same infrastructures and practices to hold up forever. And now we call for help again. I am ashamed.

Assistant: But, we must do…

Energy

To protect our Earth is from being harmed.

1.Don’t take too much energy source from nature because that will make our environment be harmed.

2.We can’t spoil the environment by using it too often.

3.We have to make the world peaceful and stop warring because that will consume too much energy.

4.Plating trees can improve our air problems and make our Earth more cleaner.

Introduction:

Protecting our Earth from being harmed is a important thing in the… Continue

Wataday

As this is a big secrete I cannot tell it here :-) But maybe rules in gaming are different. Therefore I have to tell it. Actually it is a nice task, as I really hope that I will have the possibilities to organize huge events for a lot of people. I always wanted to be European Event Managerin for Microsoft when I am around 30...ok it did not work but when I created this wish I have been just before initiating my studies so I wasn't even sure if I will manage to finish my studies so I did not… Continue

Trying kickstarter.com to Support Creative Projects to Become Market-Ready

In this week, I have to try an alternative currency or exchange system for myself I have never used before. Not an easy mission, because I already use most of the “typical” ways to pay in the internet, for example credit card and Pay Pal. I paid in different currencies – like dollar, pounds and kroner - in addition to my local currency euro as well.

First try

As I wrote in my…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
