This has been getting some media attention lately, but I thought I would share this with the community here. This summer, scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California hope to use the world's largest and most powerful laser to create a sustainable fusion reaction. What was once science fiction may become fact sooner than expected. If successful, this experiment could potentially create a powerful new source of sustainable electrical energy. More information can be found…

This is an amazing project, designed mostly to get free energy from the ocean, but as a by-product is also produces lots and lots of fresh water.
The idea is that sea water is warm at the surface and cold at the deeper places. If you bring the cold water to the surface then you can use a heat engine to extract some useful energy as it warms up. In the process, a lot of water gets evaporated, and subsequently condenses as fresh water. This can be used for drinking, agriculture,…

Unrelated to current missions, but I thought this would be something cool to share.
This is the ultimate in sustainability. The Jalalabad Fab Lab (nice name, right) has created WiFi broadcasting dishes from junk around Jalalabad. The dishes are around 70dBi @ 1KM, meaning that they're decently powerful.…

It's July 4th, 2020. Up until now, this has been one of my least favorite holidays. Fireworks are not that impressive to me and huge crowds of people, packed into small spaces tend to make me feel uncomfortable. But today is different.
Today, they are demonstrating the newest in firework technology. No longer will the aftermath of the festivities include burned, charred ash and papers from explosives, foul fumes from scorched lycopodium and other chemicals or even injured…

Masdar City
The World's first self-sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste city based in Abu Dhabi. The city is powered by it's use of solar plants, wind farms, hydrogen plants, geothermal power with plans of recycling 80% of it's water with waste water being recycled and used for crop irrigation. Biological… Continue

World Water Day will be an amazing day where the wh*** world celebrates the saving of clean water. In preparation for this day many countries have taken scores of sea life and have saved them in arks so that they can multiply and flourish with out contamination to reseed our valuable rivers, streams and oceans with the wildlife that was so abundant before the water shortage. Men, Women and children have made changes in their daily habits with water so that no drop is wasted. Places where there…

This is some kind of crazy idea, and I am not sure it would work. If someone has good knowledge of mechanics and thermodynamics, please read and tell me what you think about that.
I love the idea of perpetual motion. You have to give an initial force, and then a movement is created that will never stops. Real perpetual motion is hard, but an almost perpetual motion would certainly be enough to power a light bulb. We can use for instance the principle of the Orffyreus…

I am having some difficulty getting the resillience plans for hte city nearest me and will go up to the town hall soon... however in the meantime I can see that they will be thinking about greening the city and the wise and innovative use of energy:
Pavement power lights up Toulouse
Electricity generated by pedestrians used to illuminate street lights in France's technology…

My favorite time of the year is Fall. I dream of the colors that are on the trees. Yellow, red, orange and brown a kalidescope of whirling leaves and crisp fall air. Today is a beautiful day because we are celebrating Thanksgiving in Texas. I invite all of my friends and family to the energy producing house that I have designed and built. On my roof I have solar panels because, in the Desert of Texas, sunshine is in abundance even on that clear day. The c**ulus clouds are puffing up in a…

By bar my favorite holiday, the 4th of July! Load the car. The sun is out. Hit the road headed to the beach in my new fully electric car which I unplugged from my own power source created by activity that take place right in my home, along with solar & wind energy caught on my roof.
On the way to the beach the light poles all have wind turbines which capture the wind generated by the car that drive by. That energy is stored and will be used to light my way home in the…

How many people do you know who use a computer? The amount of computer users is growing everyday. There has got to be a way to harness the power of the computer user.
We've all heard the old computer with the pedals under the desk. Let's be real. Who is going to use that? When I sit down to use the computer, half of the experience is getting to relax a little bit while I let technology do what is does best.
But what is the one physical activity…

I really like the idea I found here.
It actually looks cool, and makes a world of sense to me.
All day to gather up a charge, and still would gain power late at night from passing cars.
A back up for emergencies is a must of course. At least use this tech as a Hybrid option. I'm such a huge fan!
I was unable to find a cost on this tech, the problem I see here is that street lights are…

I am a do-it-yourself type guy. I look for things to start on that are simple enough for the average person (like me) to actually build. I had a little success using the internet. Youtube has a lot of videos to go through. I've watched a good number of these and found that I can recall the info pretty well but I also like written instructions and diagrams.
I found a couple of sites that have access to shared knowledge on making your own renewable electricity. They are listed…

I feel power outages would have the biggest impact in my area. We have evolved as a society that relies on machines to clean our waters from disease, process our foods, keep us warm or cool, entertain us, connect us, and give us a sense of 'all is well'. With power, we can solve virtually any problem or overcome any obstacle.
I saw this during Hurricane Juan that hit my city in 2003. The darkness across the city, people trying to find some form of comfort, the…

I learned about this very interesting thing that people are making to
make energy. I was doing this
research in trying to find people that are making a difference and
trying to see what is happening with the power crises and what people
are doing so that in the matter that that there might be an energy
crises that people are not having trouble in having absolutely nothing
to work with to make power. I saw this article that I found of one way
that people are…

When I was young(er) I remember watching a tribe about a tribal community in Kenya. One of the things that has distinctly stuck with me over the years is how the cow is considered currency to many. One of the earlier lessons that Amy Smith bestowed upon us was to use the resources available to us. Here is an example of how cows can create electricity!
First you start with

Cinco de Mayo in Wisconsin can still be chilly but I am well prepared. Thank the Maker for my solar paneled roof. The lights strung up along the 24' pergola are powered by my roof as well as the spot heaters when the night time chill sets in. A few of my evoke buddies are showing up, so I've rented an old airstream that has been retrofitted for solar, now I can easily put them up in style. Since I have been banking all of my energy credits, I am pretty sure I can sell enough credits, to pay for…

My envisioned design would entail a simple 11"x17" solar film that can adhere to a sunny window. This solar source would supply power to a stick that has ports/plug ins for phones/battery powered drills or anything that can plug into an outlet for a recharge.

we simply must reduce the amount of energy we are consuming, especially those of us like myself that live in the worst offending countries. why?
world consumption of energy is projected to grow by as much as 44% by some sources.
at the current growing rate of consumption, it will become impossible to power…

Hello fellow Evokers
Does everybody knows the Seiko Kinectic work??
