A crash course in changing the world.
I choose the story " “I Wish…” UN Women captures Egypt’s first Human Chain against Sexual Harassment" from the WomenWatch news feed.
In May 2012 a campaign "Nefsi" meaning "I wish" against sexual hatassment took place in Egypt.
Inspired by snowballing, 80 participants distributing messages on paper sheets lined the sidewalks in Mohandessin, a Cairo thoroughfare. It was the country's first "human chain" against sexual harassment. Amog the participants there were women as well as men.…

At the barefoot college of india, normal women from small villages are trained to become african solar technicians. Now they are able to electrify their villages and areas
around. On the one hand, it is a good approach to improve the women's reputation within their community, to empower the women and affording them a new position of respect in their communities. On the other hand, it is a really productive way to improve the small villages' independence.
The program has been…

I chose a story about child marriage in Pakistan. Unfortunately, child marriage is still common in countries like Pakistan. Almost 25% of the girls get married before they turn 18. Families decide to marry their girls "as a reasonable response to the economic and psychological stresses of flood-related displacement and loss of livelihood, and a way to reduce the future burden of the family".
That's why the organization PLaCES (Protective Learning and Community Emergency Services) has…

I chose an article titled: "India: Transforming poor rural women into successful business managers". It describes the very successful project “Swaayam”. “Swaayam” is an UN Development Programme (UNDP)-IKEA Foundation pilot initiative. The goal of the programme is to empower women socially, economically and politically. To achieve this goal the women get trainings on financial literacy and business management. This strategy works so well that up until now there are 12,000 financially literate…

On the UN womenwatch I found the new story "American girls raise awareness and money to fight child marriage in four countries", including an very informative interview with Gina Reiss-Wilchins, Director of the Girl Up campaign.
Every day, girls as young as five years old are robbed of their childhood because they cease being girls and become brides.
However, thousands of American girls between the ages of 13 and 18 who are outraged after learning about child marriage are…

I choosed the following article, because HIV is still a big problem, but is not that much discussed than in the 90s.
"Women infected and affected by HIV face persistent challenges as a result of their gender. Each year as many as 42,000 HIV-affected women die from complications relating to HIV and pregnancy alone, and many others struggle to access prevention, treatment, care and support services.
UN Women ‘s key focus in dealing with this epidemic is by empowering women and…

In the year 2020, thanks to the persistent financial supports and political interventions from all over the world, all the women and girls finally have got their rights assured. They won't be threatened by sexual harassment or violence any more, muslim women could get rid of the purdah and receive respect as the men do. All the girls attend school and empower themselves with knowledge, no one could force them to stay at home or get married when they are young or against their will. Also…

I do not know how it will looks like... but I can hope it will be better.
UN women is doing a lot for women in need. And I hope that more and more people will be informed about the problems and dangers these women are facing. I hope in 2020 everybody knows what happened once to these women in Cairo, but it changed because every single person knows and supports the end of the harassment. The women will not live in fear anymore, they will be walking through the streets and they will…

In my "learn"-part I wrote about the UN women - an organisatzion that is the women's fund at the United Nations, dedicated to advancing women’s rights and achieving gender equality. Everbody can support the organization, so did I:

"The ILO (International Labour Organization) is the only tripartite U.N. agency with government, employer, and worker representatives. For aquiring knowlege it is necessary to be able to read... I guess the first step by implementing gender equality is to open up the possibility of reading for everybody!
Therefore I chose this project:

I donated 20$ for a refuge camp in Malaysia. 20$ will provide 5 women with two meals per day at the Refuge. To me, this was the project which touched me the most because for a woman being abused is one of the worst things that can happen to you in your live. Therefore I think that it is important to support those women for that they have the time to deal with what has happened to them. Moreover, I think that I will keep supporting this project so I am glad EVOKE showed it to me!

In the last year, we've seen what effect a rise of women can have, when we looked at Egypt.
I know, there's probably not been to much change after the revolution, but there was a change made by women standing up.
Now women in Haiti face a situation that is not similar on first sight. But there are some basic points that are the same:
a) the countries were shaken (by revolution in Egypt and by flooding in Haiti)
b) the women's situation is not likely to get better…

I was looking for some donations and I particularly noticed the following: "Teach 30 Rwandan Women to Read, Write & calculate". This project will educate 30 women each year allowing them to improve the lives of their families, to understand their rights and to actively participate in society.
With a single donation to women can be helped:
$12 - will buy one course book for one woman
$20 - will buy chalk for a wh*** year
$26 - will buy one teacher's manual
$68 -…

It is remarkable how many women's movements exist worldwide and are fighting for equality for women. I think that bringing this efforts only slightly, if the governments and regimes to hear it. That's why I think it's very good if for example a Saudi princess Basma Bint Saud Al Saud laments her regime of inequality and also makes a reform…

Thinking about indigenous peoples, I always figured that they have a great community without violence and social and economic pressure. This week however I was made aware of the cruelties, women obviously have to endure in such communities. It almost recalls medieval practices: In some Asian Pacific communities, indigenous women have to fear to be accused of being a witch, which would implement torture. In some African countries, up to 100% of women have undergone female genital mutilation.…

I think we should support organizations that enable girls to attend school. Especially in countries where women and girls are oppressed and where they are deprived of education. But we should also offer women the opportunity to do something for their education afterwards.
Even in Germany there are women who can not read or write. I know this from our community that few women from different nationalities meet once a month and be informed. Many of them do not speak German and…

I have read many articles of the UN gender equality newsfeed page. There are so many problems of different types about the women's rights and other problems around the world.
It is conspicuous, that in the industrialized countries women have successfully fought for equal rights and professional opportunities that were once reserved for men. Education and knowledge play a major role. In contrast in developing countries the status of women is still low and they have no say in family…

I have read some of the posts. The issue of what is most interesting, and I therefore think most importantly, the theme of education. In my opinion, education is the most significant property of a human being! If you have knowledge, then you should also know what is right and what is wrong! Unfortunately this is not the case at all ..
A woman should be self-employed, this can be done only with a certain education. She should not be dependent on her husband or anyone else. Also…
