The Haiti water project is a organisation that want to provide clean water for communities in Haiti. One well or cistern can provide fresh water for around 1,000 people.
A little village in Haiti, for example, lost about 20 people because of ch***ra. The village has access to a river, but there is no clean drinking water. Thanks to the Haiti water project the village got a cistern to clean the water. People are now able to drink save water!

I have decided not to pick one of the case studies that Alchemy has given us to choose from, but to remember my own story that I heard of a similar community eco-focused success story.
While at a conference my freshman year, I heard this story.
In Thailand, I believe, there was a small fishing village. It was a very, very poor village and the worse yet: it's source of income was running out. The village relied on selling seahorses in local markets to make money, as seahorses…

If there was a tornado or other crisis in the town i am living I would utilize text messageing, actual phone calls, facebook, twitter and actually going door to door to alert and help people. the ushahadi project is excellent but we need to have one for each town in the US! I would also use the TV and any local chatrooms to check up on people and what they have heard. I would be calling everyone I know.
short but sweet.

So, basically an effective solution to water crisis. now, im pretty sure everybody is aware of the water crisis especially in countries in Africa, and other LEDCs.

Imagine if you will... by Douglas Mallette
You wake up on a Monday, living somewhere in the central United States (could be anywhere, but I'm using my local reference for the sake of discussion). When you wake up doesn't really matter. If you're a night owl, who functions better in the dark, maybe that's around noon. If you're a morning person, it could be at the crack of dawn. It really doesn't matter since you dictate your own schedule like…

It took some digging, but I found our city's Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan from 2002. It is amazingly detailed and many of these ideas and projects have been implemented since that time. It requires an annual review through 2014.

I also discovered that FEMA had a Project Impact…

I don't have any entrepreneur points yet, so I did something entrepreneurial - I went to see a telemarketing company:
Me: Hi, I'm doing this project supported by the World Bank Institute. If they give me US$1000 for my new social innovation project, will you call five hundred companies for me and raise whatever else I need?
Them: You want us to sell an opportunity to be associated with your project? Saving the world, endorsed by the World Bank…

I am an artist.
I believe in the power of art and music to spread awareness and change people's lives for the better. So I'm starting this experiment in online collaboration and creativity. I just created a youtube channel called

I uploaded a video of a song I just started to write inspired by EVOKE.
The problem is all I have are chords and a basic…

Hello everyone,
Today, I'd like you to ask yourself: What is the greatest threat to the planet at the moment? I think it is consumption. If everyone in the developped countries would cut by half their consumption, the huge population of the planet could still be sustained.
At a micro scale, what you can do is saving money instead of spending it. But even more, we could get together to do it. Let's illustrate my idea with an exemple. Suppose that…

The Water Project:
Lack of clean water is a serious problem around the world. Today, nearly one billion people still do not have access to clean, safe drinking water. The contaminated water they are forced to drink is often unsafe. Every minuet, seven people die from either dirty water, or none at all. The Water Project works by going into developing countries and providing them with clean water. Their mission statement is, "For too…

Hello everyone,
For many years, I followed many projects that different people had to go and live in isolated places, alone or in in a new small community. I finally never got into any of those projects, but the issues were always the same: What about health care? Accross all the projects, this was the major issue.
But then I spent a week on Malakula, an island belonging to Vanuatu, and in several isolated villages, the local did not use money.…

LifeStraw and LifeStraw Family are amazing!!
http://www.vestergaard-frandsen.com/lifestraw.htm
There is no doubt in my mind that if we support them, get a LifeStraw into the hands of every kid in Africa, and a LifeStraw Family filter into every household, we will be saving millions upon millions of lives.
I discovered the LifeStraw through this amazing guy named Shawn. He's the brain…

Worldwide, there will be teams of people packing glaciers (gletsjer) in mountain ranges, Greenland and the antarctics.
Huge white sheets of plastic (preferably biodegradable or recyclable) will be rolled over the ice, to protect them against melting.
It is a symbolic action, as we don't want the plastic to remain there (we might try cotton or other materials)
This sudden worldwide packaging of the ice will stirr the world

Amazing, I can now recall, that we met exactly 10 years ago, soon after we have started a FuturoTok, a think tank of 3 passionate people with a deep wish for a better future, with a strong sense of belonging to much bigger process happening, listening to the voice inside. We wanted to create a network of authentic leaders, hold (un)conferences and…

The
Portable Light Project combines textiles and solar panels to bring renewable light and power to folks in remote locations, the developing world, and even more industrialized places. Basically, small and very flexible solar panels can be sewn onto clothing or other easily stored textiles. This non-profit research group is bringing the panels to different locations to see what people can do with them. They've also worked up a…

Bunker Roy lives by it everyday,

We need this kind of skill for everything that we are going to do in the future. If you wat to start your own company, if your are a porject leader, if you want to repair yoru house, all of it is going to turno more easier if we know how to manage all the parts.
Project management can help you to visualize all the details. When we are planning a big project, usually we get lost in all the stuff we have to do, in the deadlines, in the resources, well in everything. If…
