A crash course in changing the world.
Empowering women from Africa and South America would be my main goal. Argentina is already on the right track by allowing a woman president into office, showing that a country can be run by a woman and the unbiased views the Argentines have. Africa is a different story however because women are constantly persecuted for their strong stance on women's rights.

I made a transaction in the Colombian peso the other day and the experience was weird. Not the fact that there are an extra 3 zeros at the end of the bill but the fact that it is only worth half of the American dollar. When you look at what people get payed down there as in tip which is about 5000 pesos for a 30 american dollar meal, thats only a 2.50 dollar tip. Thats pathetic and people find it acceptable to pay hardworking people such a small amount. I may be too accustomed to the…

Biggest change in how we use money today would be having a global currency and getting all countries to agree on it. There would be no worry of exchange rate or who got how much and it would be easier to track money.

Well, if everything goes according to plan, then I will be having dinner on a submarine will my fellow brothers. Ill be eating whatever the cook decided to cook that night and since it is a submarine, its probably gourmet food. Ill be deep underwater somewhere doing strategic deterrence for the Navy and happily surrounded with my fellow sailors.

Personally, I don't know anybody who needs any food security since I live pretty well off and I haven't been exposed to such harsh conditions as others have but I do have one person in mind. There is this one image that I have reoccurring in my mind of a kid, about 10-12 years old with his little brother on the side of the street living under a blue plastic tarp around al this trash. Obviously they were homeless but i just found that image saddening without a mother or family, they just had…

The biggest food security issue near me would be the homeless people around Charleston not receiving the food they need mostly because lack of knowledge of local food pantries or because there are not enough food pantries around. Mostly in the United States, people get some sort of food because of the country's national food efforts. While these efforts are more effective in other cities than some, people still get some sort of sustenance, however maybe not what they should be receiving. You…

Hopefully by the year 2020 I will be commissioned in the United States Navy. My dream is to be an officer on a nuclear submarine and hopefully learning and leading sailors of my own in the proper manner. Maybe by the year 2020 or something I will be an O-2 or just maybe in the process of being promoted into the ranks. I hope to be successful in whatever i may be doing and have the confidence of the people who lead me and that I will be leading.

In 2020, the girls that competed in the Girls on the Run program will hopefully be successful in their endeavors. This would especially pertain to running, as they got a head start on it when they were younger. At the same time, it will also give them the confidence to try new things out, as some were probably a bit apprehensive at trying out running. This can lead to increased confidence for the rest of their lives.

I didn't raise any money for this, but there are a number of ways to get involved. Back home, my mom volunteers for a program called Girls on the Run. It's a program that takes girls out running, and teaches them the finer points of the sport. It is great way to reduce stress and go on a nice run. I'm sure it is very helpful for girls from lower income families, who don't have the money to sign up for running or other sports camps. I was a varsity track runner in high school, and I would…

The article I read focused on women in Somalia and how they dealt with rapes. Somalia is a dangerous country, and rapes and other violent acts happen quite often. The article spoke of how important it is to be able to combat these crimes. Some examples they have are volunteer police forces, which patrol towns and keep on the lookout for any trouble. The UN has stepped in as well. This is a good story because it can hopefully get women in other countries to speak out against rape and seek…

An important lesson learned is from studying greenhouse ga****. One problem that we can try to tackle is the greenhouse gas problem with global warming. It seems that there is a heat flux in the planet which has warmed the atmosphere, ocean, and the earth. The warming is slow. There are rising sea levels which will cause human migration inward. Along with this there can be increase disease, more extreme storms, and salt intrusion into coastal water. It is important to learn about these…

Hello members of planet earth. My name is Justine and I have been on this planet now for 100 years. The local secret that I will pass on to all of you is to take care of the earth. Now that we are the indigenous people of this planet after getting invaded by mars, we have to approach our situation differently. Throughout my 100 years of life I have seen what human's impact has had on our planet. There is no more Amazon forest and most of wildlife is dying. Polar bears which used to live in…

After a brief weekend with my sponsor family in Charleston, I took the time to sit down and asked my parents what they knew in relation to our city's adaptive capacity. As it turns out, my sponsor family knew a great deal about the adaptability of our cities strategies in terms of tackling natural disasters and other crisis that may effect Charleston. My sponsor father is actually apart of a rapid response force with his federal agency. The group is activated during any crisis that may take…

CARRI Research is an organization is to understand what resilience is and how to get there, based on research evidence. As one resource for this effort, CARRI has commissioned a number of summaries of existing knowledge about resilience, arising from a number of different research traditions. This report is
one in a series of such summaries, which will be integrated with new resilience explorations in
several CARRI partner cities and with further discussions with the research…

When considering crisis that have and may unfold in my community, I recognize the threats posed by hurricanes and tornados. Both weather systems have destructive effects that can be seen across both the state of South Carolina and the Southeast region of the United States. In terms of where I live, I feel that Charleston is at most risk for the possibility of a hurricane. In Charleston's history, several hurricanes have ripped through its beautiful coast line and destroyed multiple locations…

I had no idea how comprehensive the city of Charleston's disaster relief plan was until I made an effort to research it. I am thoroughly impressed by how complex this plan is, and for how many contingencies it incorporates into it! The city of Charleston even has an emergency management department with four phases of emergency management.
1. Mitigation
2. Preparedness
3. Response
4. Recovery
The EMD staff is even available upon request to make presentations to civic…
