Gaviotas, Colombia has a seesaw pump that is similar to the PlayPump
They also have developed a pump that can increase the depth from which water can be pumped.

It's 2020 and I'm hosting an outdoor party.

It's twilight and evening, so mason jars holding candles light the area. They look like fairylight.

I've discovered the prospect of
Electricity Generating Paint from EcoGeek.com
My invention supposes that this has been fully developed and methods have been created to turn the heat into use-able energy. Obviously, there could be lots of uses for this. I posted a photo early about
solar panel roofing tiles. This paint may be a cheaper way. Maybe…

Well, for disaster situations, I find the simplest solutions noteworthy. I remember a project by a physicist who went around the world trying to convince governments to print instructions on plastic bottles.
The procedure goes: put infected water in a bottle, put out in the sun for 5-6 hours, the water will be safe for drinking after the radiation from the Sun kills all the germs.
I just can't remember the guy's name.

One of the downsides to solar power I discovered was cost. Here's a clever solution:
How to Build a Solar Panel with Aluminum Cans
If you google this you can find examples on both small and large scale. It's a little beyond my carpentry capabilities at the moment, but maybe…

My favorite holyday is easter. It all starts with my grandmother celebrating it every year and it was a time where all the family was together. For Christmas we divided to go and visit every other family celebrating, but for Easter all came to us, probably the only making a big celebration then.
For 2020 I'll like to keep this a tradition, maybe now shared with friends and random people who would like to join and make a nice party out of this holiday. My idea is to eat some…

Power is a loaded issue here in Ethiopia, especially this week with the diaspora community raising concerns about the
Gibe III damn project, which could
threaten the livelihood of 500,000 people. The efficacy of this project is highly suspect. Even though Ethiopia desperately needs better sources of power, the government is content to shut off power even in the capital for profit. Last year, the capital was only…

This has been around the internet for a while now, and I've already told myself to make this device, but due to my hectic school schedule. It's not an original idea, I stumbled upon this one time I was reading my feeds.
Here's a way to charge your ipod using solar energy. All instructions are and requirements are listed below.
Here's what you'll need to build your own MightyMintyBoost:
Tools:
Soldering iron
Scissors
Wire cutters
Pliers (or…

After scanning the web, I found a group called SolarCycle. Founded by John Tilleman and Drew Durbin, this company has created a few innovations in the field of sustainable energy.
Their first product is a cone shaped solar cooker which would replace the wood burning stoves that many destitute communities now use. The team focused their efforts on the Pemba community outside of Mozambique. The reflective material used for these cookers is made from the recycled trash from the individual…

My first blog posting was focused on non-crisis water purification--on technologies installed or procured before emergencies, productive in the long term (also could be re-purposed for crisis use).
Large-scale water crisis situations (hurricanes, floods, cyclones, tsunami, earthquake, etc.) require special innovations to ameliorate the critical lack of potable water, and offset or prevent the spread of disease.
Crystal Bellar has posted a Learn4 blog on measures individuals can…

The mobile dings gently. I groan but don't bother to pick it up. There's no one on the other end. It's 6am and the solar panel complaining; it's rearing to get cracking at another day of work but its covered in snow. If it detects anything less than 70% efficiency I don't hear the end of it. Have you ever tried negotiating with a solar panel? Doesn't go over well. Concepts like "snooze" and "another 10 minutes" aren't in
its API.
I pull on…

As the people grumbled against Moses, saying “What are we to drink?” he appealed to the Lord, who pointed out to him a certain piece of wood. When he threw this into the water, the water became fresh.

First I tought about doing a solar charger for something that I use every day, like my cellphone. Then I started thinking about how to do it, so I asked to myself: where can I find a solar cell? The answer was very simple: from a garden solar lamp (You can't find solar cells in the stores in Mexico like in the states) like the ones you find in Home Depot.
Then, the only thing to do was to take the solar cell from the lamp, and - some how - put it on the charger. Shouldn't be so…

This idea is a conceptual blend of the "
solar backpack" and the car. The solar backpack puts solar panels on a backpack, which allows the collected energy to power up an ipod or cellphone. My idea is to put such solar panels on the rooftop of a car, with a wire running into the car. It could do the same thing: power these mobile devices as well as rechargeable batteries.
Think of how much time our cars spend out…

it was interesting to look around. first i looked for "energy" and "outside the box" - what interests me is to think about old things (energy) in new ways (outside the box). and as it is with surfing, one thing leads to another. it soon become clear to me that i was mostly looking for what i have now learned is called microgeneration

Over 10 years ago now I worked as a marketing manager in a solar energy company. We sold home installations for hot water, hot air and electricity. The hot air
systems comprised a metal box with a polycarbonate cover that had
some kind of black UV resistant matting inside it that got warm under
the influence of direct solar radiation. The hot water system was the
Daimler-Prince (I think!) system made of glass vacuum tubes that…

I discovered David Palella and is wonderful solar powered cook stoves when I began to look at ways to improve the quality of health in Nigeria. I am particularly interested in nutrition and its impact on health and well being, so his use solar power to cook when that would otherwise not have been possible was a delight to find. Even more so because he developed a method to pay for the cost of the cooking…

I get up and open the window. Today is the first day of spring - at least by the calendar, that is. for the last 3 years, my neighborhood has been celebrating this day as the day solar power becomes the main source of energy for our carbon-neutral homes.
well, its been sunny for the last three weeks, most of us actually have already maintenanced the thermal collectors, but today is the day we officially get together for the first barbecue of the year.
